Bengaluru: With temperatures steadily rising across Karnataka, the risk of heatstroke has increased, prompting the Health Department to step up precautionary measures across the state.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that no heatstroke cases have been officially reported so far. He also clarified that the reported death in Bidar was not due to heatstroke. However, he emphasized that preventive action remains crucial as temperatures continue to soar.
According to the India Meteorological Department, several districts in the state have recorded unusually high temperatures, disrupting daily life. The department has also warned that temperatures may rise further in the coming days.
In response, the Health Department has made special arrangements in government hospitals. Dedicated beds have been reserved at various levels – 2 beds in community health centres, 5 in taluk hospitals, and 10 in district hospitals – to handle potential heatstroke cases.
The Health Minister urged people to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, stay well-hydrated, consume fluids and water-rich foods, and wear light, loose clothing. Special caution has been advised for the elderly, children, and those working outdoors.
The state government has taken necessary steps to manage the situation, but public awareness and cooperation are essential to prevent heat-related illnesses.
